How to take care of your puppy's teeth
Just as oral care is important for humans, so too is it important for our four legged friends. Oral care is sometimes overlooked in our pets but it is an important part of their overall wellbeing.
Stinky dog breath is no fun for anyone and is a sign that your pooch’s mouth may need some attention. The continued lack of care may lead to painful gums or teeth and no one would wish that on their furry friend.
There are a number of ways we can look after our dog’s mouths but the key is starting early and getting them used to us handling their muzzles and looking inside their mouths so no oral issues can slip by unnoticed.
Ensure you regularly check all teeth and gums for any sign of decay or anything unusual. When handling your dog’s muzzle make sure they’re feeling relaxed and happy, perhaps sitting on your lap while receiving a little puppy love.

One way to prevent any oral problems is by having a diet that supports oral care. Some brands of food have tooth-cleansing properties, so speak to your local pet food store for more information. Also, a good chew can scrape plaque and grime off your dog’s teeth. Always ensure that what you give them is appropriate and will not cause a choking hazard.
Another recommendation is regular brushing just like humans, but luckily, you can leave out the flossing. Some experts suggest brushing your dog’s teeth daily with a doggy toothbrush and suitable pooch toothpaste. If daily is a stretch, aim for at least three to four times per week. Everyone may need to get used to this idea so if you only get half done one day, just do the other half next time.
A dog’s mouth is a very important part of their body. A healthy mouth will go a long way towards to your dog’s overall happiness so ensure you take good care of your pup’s teeth.
