Five fun ways to spend time with your loved one

Five fun-filled ways to spend time with your elderly relative.

Whether it’s your mum, dad, grandparents or friends, it’s always nice to take some time out and spend time with your Great.

To help inspire you, we’ve put together a list of five fun-filled activities you can do with your Great.

1. Get outside

Everyone loves a bit of sunshine and fresh air. Why not go for a walk and organise a picnic or lunch at an outdoor cafe afterwards? Your Great might also love to go fishing or bird watching, or maybe admire the plant life at a local public garden.

2. Go for a drive

If your loved one isn’t as mobile as they used to be, you can still get out and about. Why not take them for a scenic drive and stop off for lunch on the way? From winding coastal routes to peaceful rural routes, there are lots of options to choose from. You might even spot some wildlife on the way!

3. A lifelong wish

Many of us have a bucket list and your Great is probably no different! Whether it’s taking an art class, doing a short course, trying out a new hobby or something a bit out of the ordinary, this could be the opportunity they’ve been waiting for. Why not ask them what they’ve always wanted to do, just in case it’s something you can help arrange or do with them.

4. Be a bit kooky

Sometimes the activities that you wouldn’t normally dream of doing can be the most fun. Why not try something a bit different: perhaps laughing yoga, a treasure hunt, or a comedic poetry workshop, just for some light-hearted fun. They say laughter is good for the mind, body and soul, and after an outing like one of these, your loved one could be laughing for a long time to come!

5. Learn a skill

Your Great might have a hobby they love. Maybe it’s gardening, knitting, photography, model-aeroplane building, woodwork, painting or knitting: why not ask them to teach you, or even start a new project together?
