The future of caring
Clint Woodward sees tremendous opportunities to make a difference not only to the lives of residents at Bupa aged care Tugun, but for future generations.
The building officer, who is passionate about the environment, is transforming old pallets into a men’s shed for residents.
“I really want it to be somewhere they can just hang out and talk about football or whatever is happening in the world,” says Clint. “A place they can go to connect with other residents and be on the same level.”
Clint is realty excited to work with residents to create a space that is theirs, while also transforming junk that have gone to landfill, into furniture, decorative items and gifts.
“All of the residents have lived really interesting lives and I think there is a great opportunity for us all to teach each other new skills,” says Clint.
“The residents are really looking forward to using their hands to build something,” says Clint. “It keeps everyone active and feeling young,” says Clint.
Clint isn't just up-cycling, he has a passion for recycling.
He's helped reduce the carbon footprint at Bupa Aged Care Tugun by supporting the introduction of a range of initiatives including supplying recycling bins around the home and offices.
It’s a small change that's had a domino effect. Bupa is planning to expand similar recycling services at further care homes across the country.
“My aim is to cut the general waste of Bupa Tugun by 15–20% in six months," says Clint.
Bupa Care Services is now the largest privately owned rooftop solar power generator in Australia. Fifteen per cent of electricity consumption in Bupa’s Aged Care homes comes from solar.
“I was given the opportunity from Bupa to act on anything that would make a difference to the environment and the comfort of residents,” says Clint. “Just little things we can do in our day to day lives.”
"The residents have seen a lot of changes through our sustainability projects and I know that they appreciate the environment a lot more than my generation so I think they’re excited to see those changes.”
Bupa was honoured for its investment in renewable energy and sustainability, recognised as an ABA101 Winner in Sustainability in the 2015 Australian Business Awards.
